Why settle for cheese and pickle when these are some of the best sandwiches Dublin has to offer?

Let's face it, sandwiches are great. Quick and easy to eat and perfect any time of day. But some sandwiches are greater than others. It could the choice of bread, the fillings that go into them or, most probably, the combination of the two. In fact, the very best sandwiches Dublin takeaways serve can be positively mood enhancing. So you don't need to go for a burger or even head out for a pizza if you want to give your day that Friday feeling: you just need to order one of these super sarnies instead.

1. The Italian Sub

A post shared by Doughboys (@doughboysdublin) on

Let's start off with an American takeaway classic with the fantastic Italian Sub from Doughboys. It comes as deep-loaded as anyone could hope for with - deep breath! - roasted ham, capicola, Milano salami, provolone cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion, chilli jam and authentic Italian dressing. It's good, but if you wanted to go for an even more authentic Italian/American vibe then their Meatball sandwich with provolone certainly is the real deal.

2. The Chicken Sandwich

There are chicken sandwiches – and then there's the Chimi Pollo from the Argentine restaurant Bondiola. It takes things up to a whole new level thanks to a beautifully succulent chicken breast that's served with lettuce and tomato and doused in hot chimichurri sauce, a herby blend of chilli, parsley, oregano and coriander mixed with oil and vinegar. Plus, and maybe best of all, it's also served with a side order of their crispy French Fries.

3. The Vegan BLT

There are lots of places that serve a mean BLT but if you're a vegan looking for a meat- and dairy-free lunch your choices may be more limited. Fortunately, Aperitivo has come to your rescue. Their version includes vegan bacon and cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, rocket and their own special dressing. It's also one of five different vegan sandwiches on their menu so why not enjoy a different one each day of the working week?

4. The Grilled Vegetable Sandwich

A post shared by SLICE (@slicedublin7) on

Slice is the sister restaurant of the famous Cake Café and their sandwiches are already getting a devoted following. To see why, you only have to try their divine Grilled Vegetable Sandwich which also features slow roast tomatoes, Ryefield goat's cheese and their Green Goddess dressing served up in sourdough bread. The combination of sweet and savoury and the creamy addition of the cheese make it quite an experience. Equally, for those sticking to a gluten-free diet, these guys have got the goods: opt for their Honey Roast Ham or Bacon, Cheese & Chutney instead and you will not be disappointed!

5. The Halloumi Melt

There's some amazing fusion action going on with this sandwich. We're not sure if its name points to the people Vandal think will be ordering it or whether it grew up watching Friends and always has the latest iPhone release, but it's called The Millennial and it features Scandinavian rye bread with grilled halloumi cheese, avocado, rocket, beef tomato and pesto dressing. It's one of their best sellers so clearly it's doing something right!
